Completed in 1874 at a cost of £12,000, St Alban's Church Institute was a gift to the Parish from Mr Jonathan Nield, and designed by the same architect who designed St Alban's Church, Mr Joseph Clarke.
The building stood on the corner of Latin Street and Drake Street. It consisted of a Boys Day School facing Latin Street and a Nurses Home facing St Alban's Street. The Nurses home contained a beautiful Chapel, and later became a Diocesan Home for Waifs and Strays.
By the 1950's the Institute was in bad repair, but was still being used by the Church Youth Club. For a short time after the St Alban's Church was demolished, the Institute was used for services, but it finally closed and was demolished in 1974.
